NHL Insider Reveals Marc-Andre Fleury's Time With The Wild Is Coming To An End
There's a buzz in the NHL as insider Pierre LeBrun sheds light on the possible conclusion of Marc-Andre Fleury's stint with the Minnesota Wild. According to LeBrun's recent report, discussions with Wild GM Bill Guerin hint at the potential for Fleury's departure through a trade.
"Guerin acknowledged that, yes, if they fall out of it, he expects teams to call and he expects to have a discussion with Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury has to have that discussion in the next couple weeks with his agent, Allan Walsh. They have a full no-move (clause), it's up to Walsh and Fleury if he goes anywhere before the deadline, and we don't know the answer to that yet."
With the Wild currently distant from a playoff spot, the likelihood of Fleury seeking a move to a contender is high. If he chooses to explore options, Guerin is prepared to field calls and negotiate a deal for Fleury's next destination.
LeBrun, not one to merely report facts, delves into speculation about potential landing spots for Fleury. Among the teams mentioned, the Toronto Maple Leafs stand out, having shown interest in acquiring Fleury in the past.
«But there's some obvious teams to think about, Toronto tried to trade for him two years ago. Different GM, but nevertheless, the Leafs still have question marks in goal.»
The Edmonton Oilers, grappling with uncertainties in their goaltending department, also make LeBrun's list. Additionally, the New Jersey Devils and the Carolina Hurricanes are considered as possible destinations for Fleury.
«Edmonton, how about a mentor to
Stuart Skinner? New Jersey, they haven't had saves all year.»
«Carolina, how about a mentor to (Pyotr) Kochetkov?»
As the speculation unfolds, it remains to be seen how much influence Fleury will wield in determining his new team. The coming weeks promise to be interesting, revealing the next chapter in the veteran goaltender's storied career.
