In case you missed it last night, the Los Angeles Kings squandered a 3-1 lead, falling 5-3 to the Buffalo Sabres.

The Kings struggled in the second half of the game, allowing the Sabres to net four consecutive goals. Their performance was lackluster overall, and it seemed like they had lost their drive.

Veteran defenseman Drew Doughty didn't mince words in his post-game assessment, expressing frustration with his teammates who seemed more focused on personal achievements than team success.

Doughty stated,

«I think we've got guys in this room who are too worried about themselves and worry about their points. We got a 3-1 lead tonight and guys start thinking it's a cookie night and stop playing the way we know how to play.»

Head coach Todd McLellan didn't hold back either, «The stupidity that went into this loss is beyond explainable»

It's evident that Doughty's remarks are aimed at specific players, and it's safe to say the Kings' big investment in forward Pierre-Luc Dubois isn't paying off as expected. Dubois, acquired from the Winnipeg Jets in a significant offseason trade, has struggled with 10 goals and 20 points in 45 games.

The hefty $8.5 million annual deal is raising eyebrows, especially considering the success of players like Vilardi and Iafallo, who were part of the trade package. The Habs' 2nd round pick in the deal also appears to be quite valuable, projected to fall in the top 40 of the upcoming 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
