Tonight was an emotional one as the Columbus Blue Jackets played their home opener against the Florida Panthers in their first home match since the passing of Johnny Gaudreau.

Everyone knew that this game was going to be a special one and that it would also be a difficult one for both teams to play. Numerous tributes were planned for Gaudreau and fans were interested to see just how the Blue Jackets would handle all of this.

During the pre-game ceremony, both teams stood on the ice while Gaudreau's entire family was brought out. His parents, siblings, and even his wife and kids were there to watch what the Blue Jackets had in store. Sean Monahan was front and center as well as he was one of Gaudreau's best friends. As you can see, the team actually put a banner into the rafters with Gaudreau's number 13, and the years in which he was alive for.

It was an absolutely beautiful moment that we're sure also led to some tears from those in the crowd. How could you not cry during a moment like this one? This has been an emotional rollercoaster for the franchise and in our opinion, they have handled it beautifully.

Our heart continues to go out to the Gaudreau family during this incredibly difficult time. We cannot begin to imagine what they must be going through right now. We hope they are able to find solace in the fact that the entire hockey world is behind them right now.
