Today, the Carolina Hurricanes made the tough decision to put their veteran defenseman Joakim Ryan on waivers.

Overall, the team did this because Ryan has been on the injured non-roster list. Now, Ryan will have to wait and see what happens. The 145-game NHL veteran has also played just as many games in the AHL. If he clears, he will go down to the Chicago Wolves.

"The 31-year-old defenseman has been on the injured non-roster list due to a lower-body injury."

One fan by the name of Erin Manning made a very good point about Ryan, who will be seen as a veteran presence down in the American Hockey League.

"Joakim Ryan is one of those potential veterans the Wolves can play that I was referring to in a long thread this morning. Ryan has 144 games of AHL experience and 145 games of NHL experience. Provided he clears waivers he will be a good mentor for the "kids" in Chicago."

Only time will tell whether or not Ryan finds a new NHL home, or is placed down in Chicago in the AHL. Regardless, there is no doubt that fans are wishing him well right now. He has been through a lot in his career, and we just want to see guys have success. We wish him nothing but the best as he embarks on this new challenge. We hope it works out.
