The Columbus Blue Jackets underwent a significant trade in the 2021 season, bringing in Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois.

However, Laine's performance since joining the team has fallen short of expectations, struggling to consistently showcase the brilliance seen in Winnipeg.
Despite playing 173 games for the Blue Jackets, Laine's anticipated role in the team's playoff push took an unexpected turn in 2024. He has entered the NHL/NHLPA assistance program, putting him on indefinite leave and sidelining him from playing until cleared by the program.
Blue Jackets General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen expressed the team's support, stating,
"Patrik has our complete support, and our sole concern is his well-being. Out of respect for Patrik, we will have no further comment."

Our sincere hope is for Laine's well-being, and we trust he receives the necessary help to return to the game of hockey when he's ready.
