Blue Jackets Star Requests A Trade After Being On The Team For 10 Years
After weeks of uncertainty swirling around the Columbus Blue Jackets, their starting goaltender has now made it official and asked to be traded.
The Columbus Blue Jackets scored big in the 2014 draft when they landed Elvis Merzlikins in the third round, and since then, he's been a reliable presence in the net.
However, as frustrations mounted on both sides, the 29-year-old goaltender has formally requested a trade from the only NHL team he's ever played for.
"In his postgame media availability, Elvis Merzlikins said that he requested a trade. #CBJ"
There had been a growing sense in Columbus that this request was imminent. After posting a .906 save percentage and a 3.15 GAA through 174 games, Merzlikins could indeed be an affordable option for goaltender-needy contenders.
