Nathan MacKinnon had himself a phenomenal season with the Colorado Avalanche last year and now, he is looking to follow that up with more great play.

If you have watched MacKinnon play over the years, you know he is someone who can lay out big hits and score some highlight-reel goals. Having said that, the hits are something that fans appreciate immensely. It is a big reason why someone like Alexander Ovechkin is so popular. Sure, he scores at an outrageous clip. But he can also hit like no one else.
Last night, MacKinnon and the Avalanche took on the New York Islanders. During the game, MacKinnon laid out a massive hit on Alexander Romanov. It was the kind of hit that knocks a helmet off of a player. However, the Islanders did not appreciate it one bit and as you can see, chaos ensued all over the ice.
In the end, it was the Islanders who had the last laugh on the Avalanche. The final score in this game was 6-2 in favor of the Islanders. It was yet another bad game for the Avs who have been getting some truly retched goaltending so far. One has to wonder if they need to make a change in the form of a blockbuster trade.
To be fair, the Avalanche aren't the only team struggling with goaltending. The Edmonton Oilers are 0-3 to start the year and it is their goalies who have been truly awful. Only time will tell whether or not these Western Conference juggernauts can start trending in a positive direction.
