Carolina Hurricanes Humiliate Former Toronto Maple Leafs Star
One player noticeably absent from the Toronto Maple Leafs in Brad Treliving's inaugural year as the man in charge is Michael Bunting, the 2022 Calder Trophy runner-up. He opted to leave town, securing a three-year deal with the contending Carolina Hurricanes.
Last season with the Leafs, Bunting showcased his skills with 23 goals and 26 assists, concluding his two-year, $1.9 million deal signed under the previous GM, Kyle Dubas. Choosing the Hurricanes, a team making waves in the Eastern Conference, Bunting witnessed their deep playoff run, falling just four wins short of a Stanley Cup Final appearance a feat not achieved since 2006.
However, his current stint in Carolina sees him on the 4th line, with ice time reduced to 12:14 per game. In tonight's matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers, Bunting again lines up on the 4th line, sharing the ice with Jack Drury and Stefan Noesen.
Despite being in a lower-line role, Bunting's stats for the season aren't bad, totaling 12 points in the 19 games played so far in his debut year with the Hurricanes. At this pace, he's on track for 49 points, matching his output from last year with the Leafs.
