He recently signed a seven-year deal with the Calgary Flames that pays him $7 million per year. Moreover, the forward is coming off a season in which he got a total of 29 goals. Having said all of that, it would appear as though there is another Canadian team out there who could target Kadri for a trade. According to Ken Wiebe of The Free Press, the Winnipeg Jets make a whole lot of sense.
As Wiebe also pointed out, trading for Kadri would take a huge effort. Firstly, the return would have to be significant. Furthermore, Kadri has a no-trade clause which means he would have to waive it in order for a trade to go through. Lastly, the Jets' cap space would prove to be problematic as Nikolaj Ehlers is due for a big contract.
No matter what, the Jets would have to move heaven and earth here. That said, it might be worth it, especially if the Jets are in a place where they have to move on from Ehlers. We are in the month of August, so don't expect anything to happen just yet. However, you can be sure that this year's NHL trade deadline will be a lot of fun.
