Last season the Calgary Flames had an extremely disappointing season. After making major changes the Flames had high hopes, but the season ended with the Flames outside of the playoffs. It also resulted in the departure of both General Manager, Brad Treliving and Head Coach Darryl Sutter.

As the Flames struggled it became very clear that Darryl Sutter might not be the best fit for the Flames. Sutter had documented issues with Jonathan Huberdeau, Mikael Backlund and others. Nazem Kadri, a leader in the Flames room also made it clear he felt Sutter was more of a problem than a solution.

Nazem Kadri took part in an interview during a celebrity ball hockey game at the Nation Bank Open tennis tournament and had this to say:

"I think a lot of guys on the team are ready to kind of play to their potential."

"For whatever reason, we got a little restricted last year, so I'm looking forward to a clean slate and starting the year off strong."

Kadri went into his first season in Calgary with a ton of confidence. Kadri was coming off a career year in 2021-2022 scoring 28 goals and 87 points in 71 points with the Colorado Avalanche. However, the 32 year old regressed back to more of his career average point total, posting 24 goals and 56 points last season.

It will be interesting to see how the Flames perform under new coach Ryan Huska, but things can't get much worse.
