The Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets are in a similar predicament with their young players, Nick Robertson and Rutger McGroarty, respectively.

Both players have expressed their desire to leave their current teams, with Robertson informing the Maple Leafs' general manager that he doesn't intend to re-sign and McGroarty refusing to sign his entry-level deal with the Jets.
The two teams might consider working together to resolve this situation. Rumors suggest that the Maple Leafs could trade Robertson and a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft to the Jets in exchange for McGroarty. This move would benefit both teams, as Robertson would get more opportunities with the Jets, and McGroarty would join a team with a stronger offensive presence.
Robertson, 22, has struggled with injuries, playing only 87 games across four seasons with the Maple Leafs. Despite this, he had a productive campaign last season, scoring 14 goals and 27 points in 56 games. McGroarty, drafted 14th overall in 2022, is a physical player who can contribute to Toronto's secondary scoring. He had an impressive sophomore season with the University of Michigan, scoring 16 goals and 52 points in 36 games.
While summer trade rumors should be taken with caution, this potential deal makes sense for both teams. Robertson would benefit from more opportunities with the Jets, and McGroarty would thrive in Toronto's hockey-centric environment. A trade like this could be a win-win for both teams, helping them move forward with their young players..
