According to Josh Kloke of The Athletic, it's not likely that the Toronto Maple Leafs will give a qualifying offer to Noah Gregor, who's a restricted free agent, which would then make him unrestricted as of 12 pm ET on Monday, July 1st.
Kloke explained that the development of Easton Cowan, as well as Gregor's steiggles in the second half of the 2023-24 campaign as reasons for his departure from Toronto this summer.
Gregor, 25, became an unrestricted free agent after the 20222023 season as the San Jose Sharks failed to extend a qualifying offer to him. Before agreeing to a professional tryout arrangement with the Toronto Maple Leafs in early September, he spent the entire summer without a contract.
Gregor recorded one goal, two assists, and fourteen shots in six preseason games, and the Maple Leafs signed him to a one-year, $775,000 contract after his impressive performance.
During the regular season, the Beaumont, Alberta native played in 63 games for the Maple Leafs, recording 12 points (six goals, six assists), 17 penalty minutes, and a minus-seven rating.
It's unknown what Noah Gregor's free agency holds going forward, including if he'll sign a professional tryout contract later in the summer or whether he'll sign an NHL contract immediately on July 1. In either case, he might be a compelling one-year rental option for a rebuilding/retooling squad.
