In precisely one week, future Hall of Famer Patrick Kane will become an unrestricted free agent, and there will undoubtedly be a lot of interest in his services.
A week before, the Buffalo, New York native inked a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings, and he was back in play in early December. Despite missing the first few months of the 2023–24 season due to hip surgery during the off-season, the three-time Stanley Cup champion didn't let it stop him.
A return to the Detroit Red Wings is not out of the question as free agency opens up next week, but could Patrick Kane choose to rejoin one of his other former teams? According to TSN's Chris Johnston, yes.
The fact that Kane, 35, just finished his 16th season with 20 or more goals in the National Hockey League simply goes to prove that he is still a top-six forward with the ability to play on the powerplay and contribute offensively. Kane has 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists) in 50 games with Detroit, 16 penalty minutes, and a minus-five rating.
The start of the unrestricted free agent market, scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on Canada Day, is less than one week away. We'll have to wait and see what the market has in store for Patrick Kane the following week, but when Noon ET arrives, don't be shocked if he signs a contract to come back to New York.
