Since most NHL teams have not yet begun their off-season, all eyes are on the Stanley Cup final in the National Hockey League. has been comparatively quiet, and it is easy to understand why.
An X user with inside information from the Ottawa Senators organization claims that the NHL has instructed teams to hold off on announcing roster changes and potential deals until after the Stanley Cup final. This is exactly what NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman would like to see.
According to the X user, the NHL has instructed teams to avoid creating any distractions during the Cup Final by not moving before the Stanley Cup is awarded. You know the owners will comply with any request from the NHL as long as Gary Bettman generates revenue for them, even though this isn't a formal rule.
There's a likelihood that by Monday morning, there may be a wave of transactions if the Stanley Cup is awarded tonight. When this occurs, it will be very evident what Bettman's true objective was.
While I acknowledge that other teams not in the cup would cause some distraction, I also think that making deals and going all out for the off-season would be a good idea. You can't make thirty other teams cease operations while the season is still in progress since this is a business. This is just another perfect illustration of how Gary Bettman dictates to every franchise when and how they can conduct business, rather than actually running the NHL.
This will remain the same till Gary Bettman steps down as NHL commissioner.
