Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid tell management what they'll do next
The Edmonton Oilers are trailing 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final and are on the verge of being swept. While most fans are worried about what's happening right now both McDavid and Draisaitl are reportedly already thinking about their future.
Star forwards Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers will be eligible to sign free agents contracts in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Apart from this season, both of them have previously told the management team that they would prefer to stay with the Oilers for the long run, even though it would be easy for them to go given the lack of success in the capital of Alberta.
Draisaitl and McDavid have informed management that they prefer to sign long-term contracts rather than test the free agent market, according to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.
"Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid have reportedly made it clear to the Edmonton Oilers management/owners that they have no intentions of leaving or testing free agency, and want to re-sign long-term in Edmonton. Per, Frank Seravalli." TheMug said on Instagram.
Further to that, Bob Stauffer shared that Draisaitl and the Oilers have already begun discussions on a contract extension. The German forward becomes eligible to sign a contract extension as of July 1st and wants to ink a long-term deal with the Oilers, Stauffer says.
"According to Bob Stauffer, the Oilers and Draisaitl have already begun extension discussions, and Draisaitl wants to be locked up long-term, not like the
Auston Matthews deal in Toronto." TheMug said.
Although Edmonton's whole attention is on Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final in 2024, talks about the two stars of the team will continue throughout the summer until they are both formally signed to long-term contracts.
