Questions have surfaced after a high school hockey player who was allegedly involved in hazing incidents was given 2 awards at the end of the season

Some members of the community are concerned about the message that is being sent after a HS hockey player facing charges in an alleged hazing incident the recipient of two awards at the end of the season. The awards were revoked the following day.
In April, three students at a rural Manitoba high school were charged with s----l assault with a weapon, s----l assault and forcible confinement over an alleged hazing incident involving rookies on their team.
"Three 17-year-old Manitoba males face criminal charges of s----l assault linked to hazing on a high school hockey team, the RCMP said today. The players are accused of s----l assaults on five rookie teammates aged 15 and 16 in two separate incidents. Both alleged incidents occurred in a Winnipeg hotel, one in November 2023 and another in January while the team was playing in tournaments."
In June, one of the charges players was given two awards, which were taken away the next day. CBC would not name the school or the student in its report, but said it occurred in the south-central Manitoba Prairie Spirit School Division. An anonymous community member told CBC it never should have happened.
"I think there needs to be some changes made, because if things like that happen, other kids are going to see that, other hockey players are going to see that, and think, 'Well, if the school doesn't think it's a big deal, why is it a big deal?"
The Prairie Spirit School Division told CBC that privacy restrictions will not allow schools in the district to share information regarding punishments in place for individual students. They admitted they were aware that some may view this as not being enough being done to ensure something like this doesn't happen, but insisted safe participation and attendance are the top priorities.
