NHL Faces Cover-Up Allegations Amid Timely Expansion Leak
The NHL, for now, seems happy with its current lineup of teams, having added Vegas in 2017 and Seattle in 2021.
However, a twist emerged on Wednesday when a U.S. city officially threw its hat in the ring for an NHL franchise, following a report from the Globe and Mail about five members of Canada's 2018 World Junior team facing charges and needing to report to London Police Headquarters.
Amidst Salt Lake City's NHL aspirations, some fans are skeptical, suggesting the league might be trying to divert attention.
According to one fan,
«Gary Bettman's first move is to have the Smith Entertainment Group release this news today to overshadow a report on 5 of their players facing charges.»
Another fan chimed in,
»Important to identify the timing here, just minutes after news of the 2018 WJC scandal. Quite clearly intentional from the Smith Group.»
The future of NHL expansion remains uncertain, pending approval from the Board of Governors before teams can formally submit applications.
