His beatdown on Cedric Pare was a huge storyline from last weekend. Furthermore, he then took off Tim Stutzle's head which led to a lot of backlash. Tonight, the Montreal Canadiens were playing the Ottawa Senators again, this time in preseason action. Xhekjaj threw yet another big hit, this time at Adam Gaudette.
Gaudette's teammate Zack McEwen took issue with this and decided to take action. He dropped the gloves with Xhekak immediately. However, it was the Canadiens defenseman who came out on top here. This is typically the case whenever Xhekaj gets into a battle. We are not permitted to show you this on Hockey Unplugged but you can find the fight at the link below.
Xhekaj is becoming increasingly controversial these days, and one has to wonder how long this could realistically go on. There are a whole lot of NHL players who are fed up with his antics and his dirty plays. This consistently leads to consequences in terms of on-ice fights. However, Xhekaj keeps getting away with it because he keeps winning those fights.
With the regular season around the corner, it will be interesting to see how the Habs move forward. They are certainly keeping Xhekaj on the roster, and they appear to like the physicality he provides. However, at some point, something has got to give.
