Toronto Maple Leafs Place Forward On LTIR After Suffering An Unfortunate Injury
The Toronto Maple Leafs have received unfortunate news regarding one of their forwards, Calle Jarnkrok, who will be sidelined for an extended period.
As per an update from NHL contract tracker Cap Friendly, the Maple Leafs have placed Jarnkrok back on long-term injured reserve. This means he must sit out for a minimum of 10 games or 24 days before being eligible to return to the lineup.
The setback is particularly disheartening for Jarnkrok, who had recently recovered from a hand injury that had previously placed him on injured reserve earlier in the season. Despite returning to the roster earlier this month after a broken knuckle, his time back on the ice was short-lived.
Since his return from the initial injury, Jarnkrok played in just six games, managing to tally two assists but no goals before being sidelined once again.
The timing of this injury isn't ideal for the Maple Leafs, as it comes too late in the season for the team to benefit from potential salary cap relief by moving Jarnkrok to LTIR via trade, a strategy utilized by other NHL teams in recent years.
