Should they be financially feasible, the Toronto Maple Leafs might be interested in re-signing two NHL veterans. If they can both get their careers back on track, this may be a low-risk, high-reward situation that is also reasonably priced.
We can all probably agree that the trade for goaltender Matt Murray, who showed flashes of excellence when healthy, and the signing of defender John Klingberg, who struggled with injury again and did not play much during his tenure in Toronto, were the two worst decisions made in recent Maple Leafs history.
Kevin McGran, a reporter covering the Maple Leafs for the Toronto Star, claims that both Murray and Klingberg would like to rejoin the organization.
Both might be inexpensive, low-risk, and extremely profitable possibilities, but there would need to be some guarantees about their health and if they have been cleared to resume play. David Alter also makes this claim. Veterans contracts that include performance bonuses for things like points, victories, and games played are available to both of them.
We'll see what happens and whether general manager Brad Treliving entertains this idea, but for now, there are worse plans out there.
