Sheldon Keefe reveals why Auston Matthews had to leave during game 4
Auston Matthews, star forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, was absent at the start of the third period of Game 4 against the Boston Bruins on Saturday night, sparking concerns of an injury. These concerns escalated when the Maple Leafs confirmed Matthews would not return to the game.
However, there's good news for the team. Head coach Sheldon Keefe provided an update on Matthews' condition after Game 4, revealing that while he did leave the game for medical reasons, it was due to illness rather than injury, as advised by team doctors.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman suggested that Matthews might have been battling food poisoning earlier in the week, which aligns with the information shared post-Game 4.
"He came in coming off an illness of some kind," revealed Friedman on Saturday night. "Food poisoning or something, I'm not sure exactly what."
With this clarification, it seems probable that Matthews will be back in action for Game 5.
