At one point in the game, Holmberg was skating back up the ice after Ridly Greig of the Senators had made a pass. That is when Holmberg grabbed Greig and threw him to the ground. It was an incredibly classless dirty play that injured Greig. He ended up leaving the ice while Holmberg continued on. It was just ridiculous and Senators fans are up in arms over it.
Some may be wondering why Holmberg would do such a thing. Well, there is one prevailing theory out there. Last season, Greig infamously took a slap shot into an empty net against the Maple Leafs. That is when Morgan Reilly went up to Greig and knocked him to the ice.
Having said that, the situation was handled months ago and should have been forgotten about. Now, it just seems like Holmberg is trying to get some attention and the respect of his head coach. If that is his method, one has to wonder if his actual play is good enough to make the Maple Leafs roster.
Only time will tell whether or not the NHL decides to suspend Holmberg or do something outside of what happened in the game itself. It is the preseason, so we could just see a light warning. Either way, this is definitely a bad look for everyone involved.
