The New York Islanders and their fans are going through a tough stretch, especially after a frustrating loss last night that laid bare their disappointment.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the waning seconds of the third period, the Nashville Predators Alexandre Carrier scored the decisive goal, shattering the Islanders' hopes of pushing the game into overtime. The team appeared devastated, given the tight timeframe of just seven seconds to recover.

Adding to the dismay, the Predators scored again right after the ensuing faceoff, this time into an empty net, leaving a little over a second on the clock. With only the five Islanders skaters and the goalie left on the ice, the rest of the team members left the bench and headed back to the dressing room.

Currently positioned fourth in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 19-13-10, slightly below the .500 mark, the Islanders have 48 points at the midpoint of the season. The road ahead won't be any easier, and the team must push hard to keep any playoff hopes alive. However, this incident may give the impression that they've almost thrown in the towel. Not a good look for the team or their fans.
