Leon Draisaitl is one of the best players in the entire NHL and throughout the offseason, much has been made about his contract extension.

There have been all sorts of conflicting reports about his deal and whether or not he would bless the Oilers with something a bit more team friendly. However, it turns out that this has not been the case. Some expected the deal to be worth $13.5 million, which is supposedly good for the Oilers. However, other reports have said that Draisaitl wants $14 million.
According to the insiders over at the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast, fans can expect the Leon Draisaitl contract to be signed sometime this week. In fact, they believe it could happen as soon as later today. As for the terms of the deal, they are reporting eight years at $14 million AAV.
If this were to happen, it would make Draisaitl the highest-paid player in the history of the NHL. It would subsequently set up Connor McDavid to break the record next summer with a potential $15 million AAV deal. Needless to say, the Edmonton Oilers are in for a rough ride with the salary cap, for years to come.
