Corey Perry will make NHL history by being the first player to play in five separate teams' Stanley Cup Finals if the Edmonton Oilers win tonight or in Tuesday's Game 7 in Dallas. His first, and thus far only victory, came in 2007 against the Anaheim Ducks. After that, he made three consecutive appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals, losing to Tampa Bay in 2022, Dallas in 2020, and Montreal in 2021.
It's been an up-and-down year for the 28th overall pick in 2003. He signed with the Chicago Blackhawks last summer but in November, after allegedly engaging in unacceptable conduct, Perry was placed on unconditional waivers and had his contract terminated.
In less than two months, Perry signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers for the balance of the 202324 season, after meeting with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and becoming eligible to sign with other teams.
It has been a wild ride for Perry throughout his tenure in Edmonton, and he has occasionally found himself in the press box during the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a healthy scratch. Perry had 13 points (eight goals and eight assists) in 38 games during the regular season but only recording one assist in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff contests with the Oilers.
With a victory today, the Oilers will aim to go to their first Stanley Cup Final in eighteen years. At 8 p.m. ET, puck drop will occur.
