The Carolina Hurricanes are facing a tough start to the 2023-24 season, currently ranking sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a 14-12-1 record after 27 games.

A significant challenge for the Hurricanes has been their goaltending, as Antti Raanta and Petyor Kochetkov share duties due to Frederik Andersen's absence. Andersen, who performed well before being sidelined with a blood clot issue, has led to the Hurricanes considering trade options.
"On Carolina: "They are prepared for the eventuality that Andersen won't play this year" so they might have to go out and get another goalie. #CauseChaos #NHL #NHLHockey"

During Monday's 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet shared insights, saying,
"They are prepared for the eventuality that Andersen won't play this year,"
hinting at potential moves in the trade market. In November, the Hurricanes tested veteran netminder Jaroslav Halak on a professional tryout contract (PTO), but it didn't result in a permanent NHL contract, leading to his release.
The Hurricanes have options in the trade market, with teams like the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, and Montreal Canadiens carrying three goaltenders. Potential considerations from these teams include Eric Comrie (Buffalo), Alex Lyon (Detroit), and Jake Allen (Montreal). However, the Hurricanes might explore other avenues as they aim to get back into the playoff hunt.
