Wayne Gretzky is one of the biggest legends in the history of the entire NHL, and yesterday, he put out a statement about Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Gaudreau.

As many already know, the Gaudreau brothers passed away on Thursday night while riding bikes in Salem, New Jersey. Overall, it was a massive tragedy that has the entire NHL in a complete state of shock. The man who perpetrated the killing, Sean Higgins, is now facing 20 years in prison for driving under the influence and death by auto.
As for Gretzky, he put out a very heartwarming statement about the situation. Below, you can see that his message was also from his wife Janet. Needless to say, the two are extremely classy and amazing ambassadors for the sport.
"Janet, myself, and our entire family are devastated at this senseless tragedy. We are sending our love, thoughts, and prayers to the Gaudreau family. We lost two great young men who were loved and a huge presence both on and off the ice. Johnny and Matthew, you will always be remembered and missed."

Since the passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, there have been calls to the league to change the name of the Lady Byng trophy. However, there is no telling whether or not the league would do that. Some have even suggested that the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets should vault the number 13 for a few years.
Do you believe Gaudreau should have his number retired? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
