The passing of the two brothers has hit the hockey world extremely hard. The two were beloved by their teammates, their family, and the fans. In the aftermath of their deaths, the National Hockey League and its 32 teams have been looking for ways to honor Johnny & Matthew. From pregame ceremonies to video montages, teams have been going all out. Now, it appears as though a new tribute has come through.
According to B/R Open Ice, every single NHL team will be wearing a decal on the back of their helmets. This decal has the numbers 13 and 21 with a G in the middle. This represents the number of the two brothers. It's a cool initiative that will certainly go a long way.
However, the decals will only last until October 24th. For some, this might be a little bit bizarre. After all, why not do these all season long? It costs nothing and would be the ultimate tribute to Johnny & Matthew. In the end, however, the NHL has made yet another bizarre decision that we're sure the fans will have some strong opinions on.
On opening night, the Columbus Blue Jackets will pay homage to Gaudreau. Furthermore, other teams are expected to do similar tributes. While it is sad that these tributes are necessary in the first place, they do showcase just how amazing the Gaudreau brothers were as people.
