Leafs & Canadiens Affiliate Teams Set To Claim Bankruptcy This Week
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens are facing uncertainty as their ECHL affiliate teams hover on the verge of closure.
Insider Elliotte Friedman revealed over the weekend that the Newfoundland Growlers and the Trois-Rivières Lions, affiliates of both NHL teams, may soon shut down due to financial disagreements.
Both teams, owned by the same entity, are locked in a payment dispute with local cities and NHL organizations.
With a deadline fast approaching, Friedman cautions that operations could come to a halt if an agreement isn't reached by Tuesday.
This potential outcome raises concerns about player development and leaves the NHL clubs without vital affiliate support.
