Connor McDavid is one of the best players in the NHL and a result, he is seen as an ambassador of the game.

Having said that, it should come as no surprise that fans look to him for his take on current events within the sport. One story that has devastated the game is the passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. They were killed while riding bicycles near their home of Salem, New Jersey.

The funeral was this past week, and in a piece for NHL.com, numerous NHL stars spoke on the brothers and how much they meant to the game. McDavid offered his comments on the situation, noting that he loved playing against Gaudreau in the battle of Alberta. He also explained how Gaudreau was taken too soon.

«The whole hockey world will miss him... I will miss him... I'm grateful I had the chance to play against him, played playoff series against him, played many heated battles in the Battle of Alberta against him, and got to know him a little bit... I'll miss him a lot. He was a great player and great person, and obviously was taken away way too soon.»

We cannot imagine what kind of loss this has been for the Gaudreau family and the hockey world at large. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected. We hope they all get the help they need.
