Connor McDavid raises eyebrows with comments on Auston Matthews

Connor McDavid just went to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in his career, and now, fans are expecting him to get over the hump.

Meanwhile, Auston Matthews has had little playoff success with the Toronto Maple Leafs. This year, however, the Leafs are hoping he can change that, especially since Matthews was just named captain of the team.

McDavid and Matthews are two players who have some history with one another. They played for Team North America during the World Cup of Hockey back in 2016. Furthermore, they recently shared the ice with one another in Germany. Now, McDavid is raising eyebrows after making some complimentary comments about the Leafs superstar.

"First and foremost, he's an amazing player, great player, but he's an amazing person, highly intelligent, loves the game, loves the Leafs. I think he's a great captain."

Some believe this is a sign that McDavid would like to play with Matthews some day. This is a bit of a leap in logic and for now, it simply does not make sense. However, one day it could certainly happen, but it would have to be near the end of their careers, or due to a blockbuster and unfathomable trade.
