This was a clear case of rough play. There's no sugarcoating it. A recent incident in an Ontario Hockey League match resulted in a player facing suspension. Frankly, he dodged a bullet avoiding a lifetime ban after launching an unprovoked attack on his opponent.
The altercation unfolded during a game between the Fort Erie Meteors and Port Colborne Sailors. The player in blue not only knocks his opponent to the ice but also yanks off his helmet and throws a barrage of punches to the head until he's finally halted. The victim had no chance to defend himself, caught completely off guard.
The player in the spotlight is Aydan Doyle of the Sailors, and he's been handed a four-game suspension for his actions. Given the severity of the incident, Doyle should consider himself fortunate not to be sidelined for a more extended period. While on-ice scuffles are part of the game, blindsiding an opponent is a different story. Kyle Adamo, the player on the receiving end, seems to be okay. Interestingly, this isn't Doyle's first encounter with a suspension.
