Former NHL Prospect Speaks Out On The Incident That Got His Contract Pulled
Mitch Miller's next chapter is set as he officially puts pen to paper with Ak Bars in the KHL, marking the end of weeks of speculation surrounding his future.
The 2020 Arizona draft pick faced public scrutiny and was dropped by two NHL teams due to disturbing incidents from his past. Miller openly addressed the issue during an interview in Russia, shedding light on the bullying incident that led to his departure from both Arizona and Boston.
Reflecting on his regrettable actions, Miller shared,
"This guy was actually one of my friends in my class... We did a really bad thing to the guy, hurt him, bullied him, which I regret to this day."
Despite common friendships and shared childhood experiences, the regrettable incident unfolded during a high school basketball game.
Disputing media portrayals, Miller acknowledged the difficulty of his court appearance at the age of 14, stating,
"I probably didn't even realize what was going on at the time. I stood there and didn't know what to say, I just froze. It was a very difficult moment for me and for the whole family."
Addressing misconceptions, Miller emphasized,
"Some media wrote that I did not apologize, although I apologized several times in court in person and in writing." Expressing a desire for redemption, he added, "If I had the opportunity to go back and change the situation, of course, I would. It's still hard for me, I still want to change things."
Miller revealed that he extensively addressed the incident in an interview when he signed with Boston, but the video never surfaced before his entry-level contract was terminated. Despite the setbacks, he showcased his skills in the Slovak Extraliga, emerging as the league's top scorer before making the move to Russia.
