An 18-year-old hockey player for the Junior A Fredericton Red Wings is facing manslaughter charges for an alleged attack on a 41-year-old man.

Tyler Totten is the player who has been charged. According to reports from Rick Westhead, Totten, and three others got into an alleged altercation with Andre Bourgeois late at night. Bourgeois passed away as a result of his injuries, and there is now a full-blown investigation into what happened.

As for Totten, he is not the only one who has been charged. Two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old have also been hit with manslaughter charges. Because the other three are minors, they cannot be named at the moment.

"If the minors are connected to the Red Wings, police cannot say because they cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Maritime Junior Hockey League spokesman James Faulkner told me the league and the Red Wings are cooperating with Fredericton police regarding what Faulkner called a "non-hockey related incident."
Wings general manager Kyle McAllister declined to comment.

This is a horrible tragedy, and only time will tell what will happen to the alleged perpetrators. However, this is overall just a complete tragedy on both sides. A man's life was lost while four young men and boys have potentially ruined their lives forever.

Our heart goes out to the family of Andre Bourgeois, we cannot imagine the horrible feelings they must be dealing with.
