Erik Karlsson had quite the magical performance at the 4 Nations, which has proved that when he's paired with the right teammate, he can excel at the highest level.

Erik Karlsson was Team Sweden's best player at the 4 Nations Face-Off, leading the team with a goal and three points in three games.
The Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman was dynamic with his offensive skills and play-driving capabilities, proving he is still capable of making an impact abroad.
Despite Karlsson's efforts, Sweden was not a contender for a title. Canada's 5-3 win against Finland eliminated Sweden mathematically, and Team USA played Canada at TD Garden in Boston in a rematch that Canada ultimately won.
Although Sweden's final match against Team USA had no bearing on the standings, the team played for pride and won 2-1. Karlsson assisted on the go-ahead goal by Gustav Nyquist to finish the tournament on a positive note.
Penguins teammate Rickard Rakell was not well, but Sweden was still capable of finishing with a flourish.
Karlsson was interviewed post-game regarding Sweden's future in the 2026 Winter Olympics when the NHL players will once again be allowed to compete.
Karlsson provided TNT's post-game show with information that demonstrated Sweden's potential.
"We'll be better," Karlsson said.

Karlsson is a force to be reckoned with when he has a good D partner

One of the most noticeable aspects of the tournament was how Karlsson performed when he had a good defensive partner to play with.
Paired with Mattias Ekholm on defense, Karlsson was able to play to his offensive strengths while Ekholm provided stability in the rear.
This pair showed that with the right partner, Karlsson is still an elite number-one defenseman capable of driving play and scoring at a high level.
If he is still playing at this level, he would be a very welcome addition to the 2026 Olympic squad of Sweden, as well as be traded to any contending team in the NHL.
