Bad news for Leon Draisaitl's future in Edmonton surfaces
The Edmonton Oilers, known for their dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, face uncertainty as Draisaitl's contract approaches its end. Set to become a free agent in the summer of 2025, Draisaitl could become one of the most sought-after players on the market.
Journalist Mark Spector suggests that Draisaitl is unlikely to follow Auston Matthews' path of agreeing to a shorter-term deal with his current team. In a recent article, Spector identifies teams like the Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, and New York Rangers as potential suitors for the superstar forward if he decides to leave the Oilers.
In his recent article, Mark Spector lists the Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and New York Rangers as teams that superstar F Leon Draisaitl could consider if he were to leave the Edmonton Oilers when his current contract is up.
While there isn't any reason to believe Draisaitl is considering leaving Edmonton, Drai stated he was going to do «what's best for him» when his current contract is up, not giving any real answer when he was asked about re-signing.
Spector believes Drai's next contract will be the team he finishes out his career with, as he believes there is almost no chance he signs a short-term deal like Auston Matthews did with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
While there's no indication that Draisaitl is contemplating a departure from Edmonton, his statement about doing "what's best for him" when the current contract ends leaves room for speculation. Spector believes that Draisaitl's next contract will likely determine the team he finishes his career with, emphasizing the slim chance of him opting for a short-term deal akin to Matthews' agreement with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
