Katie Gaudreau offers heartbreaking reflection about the day Johnny & Matthew passed away
Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were senselessly killed by a drunk driver on the night of August 29th while riding their bicycles near their hometown in New Jersey.
Since that time, the Gaudreau family as well as the entire hockey world has been in mourning. This past week, there was a candlelight vigil in Columbus and Calgary. These events were attended by thousands of people who were visibly emotional over what had transpired.
However, no one is feeling more pain right now than Katie Gaudreau, Johnny and Matthew's sister. She was set to get married last weekend but called off her wedding after the tragic incident. Recently, she took to Instagram with a plethora of family photos of herself with the brothers. Meanwhile, she also reflected on the day of the incident and how just hours prior, everything seemed so different.
"That day.
Right in the middle of getting ready for the best day of my life the unthinkable happens that will change my life forever. I remember a week ago being in the hotel sitting with family and texting Devin about how we forgot to practice our dip. To think that was our biggest worry at this moment when in just a split second and a phone call later our lives would forever change.
Remember to tell your people you love them. I would do anything to tell my big brothers I love them one more time."
The messages of love and support just go to show how beloved Johnny & Matthew were by all who knew them. From family to friends to teammates, these two knew what it meant to be a good person. It makes their loss that much more tragic and we cannot imagine what the pain of losing their spirit must be like.
Our heart goes out to the Gaudreau family and the entire hockey world during this incredibly difficult time. We hope the family is able to find peace and comfort, as well as continued support from their community.
