Now, the driver of that vehicle, Sean Higgins, is facing 20 years in prison. Meanwhile, the entire hockey community has been in mourning. It is still hard to fathom what occurred. Since their passing, numerous tributes have taken place. With hockey seasons all around the world beginning to take shape, there have been plenty of on-ice tributes.
For instance, junior hockey club the Philadelphia Rebels of the NAHL, paid tribute to Johnny & Matthew prior to their game this weekend. Matthew Gaudreau was an assistant coach with the team, so it should come as no surprise that the players were hoping to pay homage. In the video below, you can see that they did so by wearing commemorative shirts during a pre-game ceremony.
This was a wonderful tribute from the Rebels. With the NHL season beginning in about a month from now, we will surely see more tributes of this magnitude. Hopefully, the NHL and its teams craft tributes that are both respectful and tasteful.
Our heart goes out to the Gaudreau family during this very difficult time. We hope everyone affected by this tragedy is able to find peace and comfort through this process. The hockey community has done a truly amazing job of coming together for the family.
Rest in peace, Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau.
