Sad news is being reported in the NHL today as the league's alumni office has confirmed the passing of former Defenseman, Larry Trader.

Trader was 61 years old at the time of his passing. The defenseman had 18 points in 91 career games. Furthermore, he was drafted in the fifth round back in 1981. He started his career with the Detroit Red Wings and eventually played for the St. Louis Blues. Finally, he ended his NHL career as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.

In fact, Trader played overseas in Italy and Austria for the final five years of his career. He gave his life to the game of hockey, and you can't help but admire someone so dedicated to the sport.

"Trader's hockey career also took him to the OHL, AHL (where he won the Calder Cup with the Adirondack Red Wings), Austria, and Italy before his retirement where he coached teams in Ontario, Canada.

Larry was loved by all those who met him, with his positive energy and quick wit, he could make anyone smile.

We send our deepest condolences to Larry's family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time."

Our heart goes out to Trader's family during this very difficult time. We also extend our condolences to NHL Alumni and the entire hockey world.
