Jacob Wassermann was a goalie for the Humboldt Broncos, and in 2018, he became the victim of one of the deadliest accidents in hockey history.

Wassermann has persevered through adversity during this time and has completely defied the odds. Despite his disability, he has worked hard and this year, he finds himself at the Paralympics, where he is competing in rowing. While his initial goal was to make the games in 2028, he was able to qualify in 2024, which is truly impressive.

During the 2000m final at Vaires-sur-Maine Stadium, Wassermann was able to finish fourth. Although he was unable to medal, there is no denying that this is an accomplishment worthy of a large celebration

"This is my second summer on the water only. It's been a quick process and not something that we expected," Wassermann told CBC. "Six months ago, even when I was in Rio and got the qualification [at the Americas Continental Qualification Regatta] - we went to Rio just to get more experience. It's been a whirlwind, but it's been a lot of fun."

Hopefully, Wassermann will continue to pursue para-rowing. His story is inspirational and he will certainly be inspiring others to go down a similar path of sports excellence.
