Phil Kessel may have just had a breakthrough in his NHL comeback hopes
Phil Kessel was last on the ice during the 2023 playoffs when the Las Vegas Golden Knights went on a deep run to win the Stanley Cup.
Although he did not play in the final rounds, he was able to secure his third Stanley Cup ring. Now, he is currently trying to play another season of NHL hockey. As we reported a few days ago, Kessel was very much interested in continuing his career, although he was willing to go overseas if he had to.
Well, he may not have to travel that far. On the latest 32 Thoughts with Elliotte Friedman, it was noted that the Columbus Blue Jackets could be the perfect option. Following the passing of Johnny Gaudreau, they need to get back up to the salary cap floor. As Aaron Portzline noted, the team is looking to sign forwards. When you put this together, Kessel seems like an obvious choice.
"Honestly, Kyle, I wondered if there was any chance that Phil Kessel may end up there (Blue Jackets). Just simply because, and I think this is a serious season for Columbus. They were disappointed last year. They want to show some improvement, but I kind of wonder about a guy like Kessel simply because he's got the reputation of being someone who really lightens the mood and just creates a lot of enjoyment when he's around."
Kessel is currently just eight points away from a total of 1000 for his entire career. That is an incredible milestone and we're sure he would be eager to get to that mark. Whether or not it will be with the Columbus Blue Jackets, remains to be seen.
